Hello everyone! I, Kayah Makana Asa Ignacio, MakanaxMakana founder, was raised in beautiful Waimea, Hawaii. After graduating from Kamehameha Schools Hawaii, I moved to Los Angeles and obtained my Fashion Design degree from the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising. That is where I learned the basics as well as advanced skills needed to one day create my clothing line, MakanaxMakana.
For myself, creating an Aloha wear brand that spoke to everyone was key. I saw a gap between style, comfort, and affordability amongst other retailers and decided to solve that by meticulously finding a balance between all of those aspects.
Makana, meaning “gift” in Hawaiian, is a reminder that the present itself, is a gift. The act of merging the traditional and modern styles of Aloha wear thus creating a harmonious balance between past, present, and future. Looking to the past in order to create a new future, is what drives the creativity and intention in every garment that I create.
Mahalo for supporting my dream!
